We increased this to 1000.

It's necessary for spam prevention, but we may allow configuration by admins.

We want to this, but haven't yet. :)

You can, set the max msgs and max threads. The 400k limit is a necessary upper maximum, though. If your msg/thread count is hit first the messages will be archived.
