sorry to hear about your teils unfortunately once a bird is in respiratory distress to that degree there is virtually nothing you can do ....Cockatiels are very prone to psittacosis, candida and upper respiratory infections but like any other bird there are many other deseases that can affect them..So basically you have to go back to what symptons they were showing before there respiritory system started to break down if any eg. weight loss, colour of there droppings.. Sulperdim is used generally to treat coccidiosis and enteritis so therefore if the cockatiels were suffering from other problems not associated with these two deseases it would be of little use. The other thing it could be something as simple as aspergillus which is a fungus that grows in the air sacs of the birds.. Best thing to do is as soon as you see problems in a chick immediately get them to an avian vet or find someone local to you which is very experienced in hand rearing to assist you as quiet often they would pick up on symptoms that you may not recognise as a problem.
