Subject: Yarn for coasters?

I have a question for all the knitters and crocheters out there. I'm crocheting some coasters, and on the patterns I've found, some call for the cotton worsted weight and some use regular worsted like the Red Heart 4-ply. I would like to know which one would be better to use, or if either one would work.
I guess the same question would go for dish cloths and pot holders. Any opinion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Lin'a

Was hoping a crocheter or knitter would check in but not so far. I've only ever knitted a few scarves. I would say cotton definitely for potholders and dishcloths. I have received both as gifts and all have been cotton. Maybe best for coasters also. Having said that, however, I once bought some crocheted coasters at a craft show made with worsted yarn. Only used them with warm drinks though. I don't think sweat from cold drinks would be soaked up as well as cotton.

I would think either for a coffee mug.

I would prefer cotton for a cold cup for water to absorb.

Just my opinion, not experience.

Thanks for the input. I have been using the cotton, thinking myself that it would be best. But I'm finding several patterns using the regular worsted, it just got me to wondering if it would work. Since I want to sell them, I think I'll stick to the cotton.
Thanks again, Lin'a
