This is an extract from the DftCom2 Help File

=== Start of Extract ===

The Dynamic Family Tree uses the = symbol to denote marriages.
In cases where a couple is either unmarried or their marital status is unknown, the symbol != is used.

DftCom2 provides the following options:

All Married
All couples are assumed to be married and the = symbol is used throughout the Dynamic Family Tree.

Gedcom Marriages
If either the DATE or PLACE of marriage is specified or alternatively if the value of the MARR tag is Y, the = symbol is used. In all other cases, the != symbol is used.

=== End of Extract ===

What this means is that if a DATE or PLACE of marriage is specified, then the Marriage definitely happened.

If the DATE and PLACE of Marriage are NOT specified, but the marriage is known to have occurred, the MARR tag must be followed by the value Y
eg
1 MARR Y

The Gedcom spec explicitly forbids the use of 'N' to indicate that a marriage did not occur. This means that relationships which are not supported by a
MARR Place or Date or the use of the 'Y' value are indeterminate and the DFT uses the != symbol.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Michael Horey
