When the dftcom2 applet Window is minimized, the applet closes and ends automatically. To sustain the applet window, open a new window with your browser program (or better yet already have one running), use the new window to load the page you want, and then just use the "alt tab" key stroke to switch between the dftcom2 applet window, and another browser page, and any other program window. Note the dftcom2 applet window still operates when off-line.
