Dftcom2 is an application that is run local or "client side" on a windows only based machine. The dftcom2 application uses a gedcom file to create a java applet that can then be written into an html type web page.(An example HTML page is included).
When run, the applet reads java data zip files which it creates from the gedcom data, and displays a family tree which can not be edited. The data zip files must be placed on the web server in the same sub directory as the web page containg the dftcom2 applet. To my knowledge, the dftcom2 applet is the only program that can interpret these java data zip files.
One simple idea is for you to just use a standard gedcom program (LDS at familysearch.com have a free one for example) to input your data, then put the exported gedcom file in a password protected web page. Other family members download the gedcom file, edit it with their gedcom editor, rename it to reflect the author, date and then upload as either a different file, or replace the old. Once a final version is created, then use dftcom2 program to display the tree online, either on a password protected page, or to the public. Most gedcom programs can filter living people out.
