I know you knw what you are doing, but . . .

let's go over the basics real quick, just to make sure.
1. The pump must be higher than the well and the pipe or hose should be sloping up to the pump. If there is no slope, than an air bubble gets in there and it won't prime.
2. If this is a jet pump then the nozzle in the well could be bad/rusted/clogged/ etc.
3. Pour enough water in the pump until not only the pump is full, but the pipe all the way to the check valve. Don't bother sealing up where you put the water in (I have a "T" at the top of my pump on the output).
4. Turn the pump on and let it run a while. Water should be popping a little out of the output side of the well. Wrap your hand around the bottom of the pump body and you will feel it getting warm. When the pump starts getting more than a little warm, turn it off, fill the pump and start again. It takes me about 20 times sometimes. That's why I make sure I have a good check valve. Sand can wear away the seal on the check valve pretty quickly.

If you don't get any water or air popping out when you turn the pump on, then either you have an air pocket in the input or a really bad leak.
