 Most 1/2 hp 12 GPM pumps are capable of approximately 100psi max. So even if you should accidently fully close or restrict the flow completely for a short period, it should not hurt anything provided you used proper fittings from the pump to the tank. Other sizes of pumps are capable of more pressure.
