The realtor gave you good advice. Shut the pump off at the circuit breaker. Pour a gallon of ordinary household bleach down the well. Let it sit overnight. The next morning,turn on a spigot and then turn on the circuit breaker and let the water run until the chlorine odor is gone. Afterwards any bacteria in the water will be dead and gone.
