First try surging with air. If that doesn't improve the output, then try the acid. Turn the pump off at the circuit breaker. Use a non-metallic funnel and acid resistant clear vinyl tubing to pour a gallon of muriatic (swimming pool) acid into the standing water in the well without getting any of the acid on the rest of the well. Let it work overnight. With a well this old there is a risk of damaging the wellscreen. If that happens, the well will start to pump sand and you will have no other option other than to replace the well.
