No good. You will have to go deeper. Sounds as if you hit clay. To get through clay, you have to "twist" it down I use vise grips on the 3/4" pipe and 14" pipe wrench. When you do this, hold the wrench palm up and pull the wrench towards you. If you hold the wrench palm down it will put too much stress on your elbow.

The thickness of the clay is anyone's guess. It could be an inch or it could be 10 feet thick.

You will have to keep fiddling with the height of the 3/4" pipe. That's why you need the vise grips to hold it. I can't give you any secret that will make this easier except that once you get the water flowing up and over the top, try to keep it going. It's hard to get going again if you stop. But you should stop every foot or so and check to see if the flow is better.
