Yep, that sounds about right. Fills up, but goes down pretty quickly -- means it will work, but not very well. Good job.

If you think there is metal down there, because you hear a clank, then you probably do have a metal screen down there. Many people in Florida don't use any screen when they make a well like this, they just pound a pipe in the ground.

Acid might clear a screen. There are acid pellets for sale, or drop an old garden hose down there to the bottom and pour some acid in the hose using a funnel.
