A 1 1/4 inch diameter well is the smallest useful diameter of small diameter wells. It doesn't leave any leeway for errors like putting the check valve in the wrong place or having to go to a deep well system (nearly impossible with anything less than 1 1/2 inch diameter).

I can see how you think you are only creating a 19 foot suction, but that is not how this works. You forgot to figure in drawdown--which, in small diameter water wells, can play a significant role. To see what I mean, take a 8 foot length of 1.25 inch pipe, plug off one end, then fill it with water. Now pour the water in the pipe into a bucket. Not much water, is there? The principle you are citing holds true in 4 inch and larger wells with submersible pumps. Small diameter drivepoints with jet pumps are a whole different ball game.
