Miss Earth 2009 Group 3 Delegates Review
The Group 3 delegates get the least publicity in terms of their activities because these activities are held mostly out of town. This group is also the closest among the three groups; they treat each other like sisters. Three from this group received the major awards: Best in National Costume for Miss Tanzania, Miss Friendship for Miss Switzerland and Miss Talent for Miss Tahiti. Could this group also bring a number of semifinalists come finals night? Let’s see how this group fared in this competition.
STRONG SISTERHOOD PREVAILS IN GROUP 3!
BRAZIL, Larissa Ramos – Larissa is one of the tallest delegates in the competition. Her inclusion in the TOP 15 final swimsuit and evening gown competition already assures her a TOP 18 spot. Could she bring Brazil’s second Miss Earth crown? Maybe yes or maybe not. She faces a stiff competition with the other stronger favorites like Misses Cuba, Spain, Poland, Venezuela and the Philippines. Larissa will be lucky to make it to the TOP 4 and bring a second crown for Brazil.
CHINESE-TAIPEI, Chen Yi-Wen – Chen is the shortest among the Chinese delegates. I was impressed with her National Costume performance last Nov. 4 at the Amazing Philippines Theater. She has one of the best national costumes in this competition, but she was beaten by her group mate Miss Tanzania Evelyne Almasi. Chen will be more than happy to see a lot of her group mates make it to the TOP 18.
EL SALVADOR, Mayra Aldana – Mayra is another Latina who will be outshone by the stronger Latina delegates. She just doesn't capture much attention from the press.
FRANCE, Magalie Thierry – Magalie has the best body in this competition and she is also one of the most beautiful blondes. Her inclusion to the TOP 15 final swimsuit competition can secure her a TOP 18 spot. The only problem with Magalie is her catwalk skills; she looks awkward walking on stage and she should keep her hair straight as she looks more beautiful with straight hair. She could sneak into the TOP 12 if she plays her cards very well during the TOP 18 swimsuit competition.
GREECE, Triantafyllia Sarantinou – Triantafyllia pales in comparison with last year’s representative from Greece, Ria Antoniou. It was shocking that Ria did not even make the semifinals; she and Adriana Reveron were the most beautiful delegates last year. Triantafyllia is an exemption as she is eclipsed by her stronger European counterparts.
GUAM, Maria Luisa Santos – Malu, as she is called by her family and friends, is of Filipino descent. She was one of the Top 15 finalists in the evening gown competition which was held last Nov. 16. Malu is a sure shoo-in for the TOP 18 and could make her way to the TOP 12 if luck is on her side.
GUATEMALA, Hamy Tejada – Another delegate with a big bosom. During the preliminary swimsuit competition with her group at the Lakeshore in Pampanga, the straight male audience kept shouting that she was sexy because of her well-endowed chest. Hamy will not enter the semifinals as she is not the best from South America; she is outshone by her Latina compatriots like Venezuela, Cuba and Puerto Rico.
HONDURAS, Alejandra Mendoza – Another Alejandra from South America and has a Filipino roots, but this time she is outshone by her namesakes from Colombia and Spain. Although, her best weapon is her fluency in English and environmental advocacy. If she's lucky, she can cruise her way to TOP 18.
KOSOVO, Elza Marku – Elza is one of the best reps that Kosovo has sent to this pageant. She just lags behind her European counterparts like Spain, Poland and Czech Republic. One thing she has in common with Marigona Dragusha (Miss Universe 2009, 2nd runner-up) is that they sport the same Audrey Hepburn hairstyle during the final evening gown competition. But Elza is no Marigona Dragusha when it comes to performance in both swimsuit and final evening competition.
MACAU, Jia Pei – Jia Pei is one of the four Chinese delegates in this competition. If I had to chose among the four Chinese who could possibly make it to the TOP 18, it would not be Jia Pei but Hong Kong’s Wang Shan Shan.
MALTA, Alison Gallea Valletta – Representing Malta in this pageant is already an achievement for Alison. She will bring with her long lasting friendships and memorable experiences when she gets back to Malta.
MEXICO, Natalia Quiñonez – Natalia may not be the best this year from Mexico after her predecessor Abbygail Elizalde’s Top 4 finish last year. She delivered as expected during the Top 15 final swimsuit and evening gown competition. The highest placement Natalia could get is a TOP 12 and the lowest will be a TOP 18 spot.
NEPAL, Richa Thapa Magar – Richa is one of the shortest delegates in this competition. Unfortunately, she is not the best that Nepal has sent to this pageant.
NIGERIA, Modesta Alozie – Modesta is not one of the best black delegates from Africa. She is outshone by Tanzania’s Evelyne Almasi and South Sudan’s Aheu Deng Kudum. I am sure she will be cheering for them to make the cut.
NORTHERN IRELAND, Kayleigh O'Reilly - Kayleigh is one of the four UK beauties, along with Miss England’s Kirsty Nichol, who will have a chance to make TOP 18 if they play their cards well especially in the pre-judging interview where they have an advantage over the other European stunners.
PARAGUAY, Gabriela Rejala – Gabriela’s experience in Miss World pageant last year in South Africa will give her an advantage in this competition. Having made it to the TOP 15 finalists in both swimsuit and evening gown competition will make her a shoo-in for the TOP 18 semifinalists. But she will not advance further to the next round considering that there are others who are better than her in terms of catwalk skills and stage projection.
PERU, Leticia Rivera – Leticia is one of the tallest delegates from South America but her height alone is not enough to secure her a TOP 18 spot as she will face stiff competition from Latina compatriots like Cuba, Venezuela and Colombia.
PUERTO RICO – Dignelis Jimenez – Dignelis is a lawyer and this will be her advantage among the other delegates. She also has a good body and catwalk skills which could earn her a TOP 18 spot. Her experience at Miss International in 2003 and Miss Tourism World in 2004 where she ended up 2nd runner-up will also help her land in the semifinals.
SAMOA, Varuna Curry – Varuna will just be another delegate who is happy to be representing her country, Samoa.
SCOTLAND, Sarah Finlay – Sarah is one of the four UK beauties in this competition. Her small face with a beautiful smile has captivated the public during their mall tours at the Robinsons Mall. However, she was not as strong as Misses England or Northern Ireland in terms of performance during their final swimsuit competition.
SINGAPORE, Valerie Lim – Valerie may not be the best from Singapore but she is doing something that her countrymen could be proud of. She’s the most bubbly among the delegates in this group and she is always fun to be around. Her reports on everyday activities in her blog is a testament that all the girls in her group are enjoying each other’s company and looking after each other.
SLOVENIA, Maja Jamnik – Maja is another blonde from Europe who faces stiff competition from stronger European beauties like Misses Spain, Poland and Czech Republic.
SWITZERLAND, Graziella Rogers – Graziella received the Miss Friendship award because she is obviously the friendliest and the most approachable girl in the pageant. But being the friendliest is not her only forte; she also was selected as one of the Top 15 finalists for the swimsuit competition proving that she can also hold on her own among the best in her group. The highest placement Graziella could get is a Top 18 semifinalist spot.
TAHITI, Niuriki Teremate – Neu as she is called by her family and friends is not the best that Tahiti has sent to this pageant. Her only consolation is when she won the Miss Talent award last Nov. 17th the Central Philippines University in Iloilo province. Her body is not toned and she looked awkward when she walked during their preliminary and final swimsuit competition.
TANZANIA, Evelyne Almasi – Evelyne got the first of the major awards when she won the Best in National Costume last Nov. 4 at the Amazing Philippines Theater. She is deserving of this award as it really reflects the Earth in her costume. Although she is not at par with Tanzania’s representative last year who almost won the Miss Earth 2008 title, Miriam Odemba, Evelyne could sneak her way to the Top 18 semifinals.
THAILAND, Rujinan Phanseethum – Rujinan is another beautiful delegate that Thailand has sent to this pageant. Her endearing personality and sweet smile makes her a favorite of the public. Among the Asian delegates, she and Miss Philippines’ Sandra Seifert are the best and they could easily make it to the Top 4. But with the tough competition from the Latinas like Venezuela and Cuba and from Europe with Spain, she will have to work harder to reach the Final Four.
My summary of this group’s placements come finals night:

Miss Earth 2009 Group 2 Delegates Review
The group 2 delegates probably has also some of the strongest shoo-ins for a TOP 18 spot. This group includes Miss Philippines, Sandra Seifert, and the tallest beauty queen in the history of all international pageants, Miss South Sudan, Aheu Deng Kudum belong. Group 2 has gained more publicity than Group 3 because the former had their activities done mostly in a mini-fashion show at Robinsons Mall. This is where I could truly evaluate them in terms of catwalk and projection. Let’s begin my review of this group.
ARGENTINA, Gisela Menossi – Gisela is one of the tallest delegates in this competition. A fashion model in her country, Gisela just pales in comparison to stronger Latina compatriots like Venezuela, Cuba and Puerto Rico. Though her catwalk skills is an advantage, it's not enough to advance her to the semifinals.
BELGIUM, Isabel Van Hoof – Isabel comes off as a sweet-looking delegate, but she is sometimes a bit shy as evidenced by her not mingling much with the public during their mall show activities. With a lot of European stunners in this competition, Isabel will just fade away in the limelight as she is not good in terms of catwalk. Her personality is much too reserved to be considered for a TOP 18 spot.
CANADA, Lateesha Ector – Lateesha is a multi-racial beauty who has a chance to enter the TOP 18. She was among the TOP 15 finalists in the swimsuit competition and her communication skills is also good as suggested by the interview I did with her. If Lateesha makes it to the semifinals, expect her to advance to the TOP 12 with her above-average swimsuit performance.
COSTA RICA, Malena Orozco – Malena is the second tallest delegate in this competition after Miss South Sudan’s Aheu Deng Kudum. Same as with Miss Argentina, she will be eclipsed by her stronger Latina compatriots like Venezuela, Cuba and Puerto Rico. Malena has very strong facial features and she will just be another forgettable Latina clapping for her stronger Latina compatriots who will make the semifinals.
ECUADOR, Diana Delgado – Diana is beautiful but short in height; she is overshadowed by her tall Latina compatriots if they stand side by side during photo shoots.
ENGLAND, Kirsty Nichol – Kirsty is one of the four delegates from the United Kingdom. She and Miss Northern Ireland are the most beautiful of the UK batch. Kirsty is sweet and smiles all the time. She might just be lucky to make TOP 18.
GHANA, Mariam Abdul Rauf - Mariam’s greatest disadvantage is her body; it is not toned and her hips are too wide and not proportionate to her upper body.
INDIA, Shriya Kishore – Shriya’s initial photos that surfaced on the internet made her as one of the frontrunners for the Miss Earth title. But when she arrived here in Manila, seeing her in person was a bit disappointing. Shriya’s biggest advantage is her great catwalk skills and her articulateness about the environmental issues. Shriya could nail a semifinalist spot based on these two advantages but I fear that she may not advance further to the next round if she does not perform well in the swimsuit competition.
ITALY, Luna Isabella Voce (photo) – I never thought that Luna could be so beautiful in person when I saw her in one of the mini-fashion shows at Robinsons Mall. Luna’s charming personality and her endearing smile makes her one of the favorites of the public. The only problem with Luna is her below-average catwalk skills as seen during the final evening gown competition. The highest that Luna could make is a TOP 18 spot.
KENYA, Catherine Muturi – Catherine is not the best Kenyan delegate in this pageant mainly because she does not have a toned body. She looks heavy just like Ghana’s Mariam Abdul Rauf.
KOREA, Yeju Park – Yeju may not be the best Korean delegate ever sent to this pageant but she delivered as expected mainly because the Filipinos are still embracing the Korean invasion here in the Philippines through their ‘telenovelas’. Yeju’s uniqueness is that she is the only short-haired delegate in this year’s pageant. She could possibly get a spot in the semifinals but she will not advance further to the next round.
LEBANON, Nicole Lichaa Khoury – Nicole might not have the best body in this competition but she deserves praise her having enough guts (no pun intended!) to join this pageant. It is not easy for her to be in this competition considering that she knows she will not have any chance of placing. Her only consolation is to make new friends and fond memories.
LUXEMBOURG, Theodora Banica – Theodora is one of the shortest delegates in this competition. Having represented Luxembourg in this pageant is already an achievement for her.
MALAYSIA, Madeline Nandu – I was surprised that Madeline made the TOP 15 in the final swimsuit competition, but when I saw her swimsuit performance at the Fontana last Nov. 14th, I was convinced that she gave the best performance in this competition. This could be attributed to Madeline’s experience at the recent Miss Tourism Queen International pageant held in China. Madeline could nail a semifinalist spot as what she did at the MTQI pageant and if she continues a good job in the the swimsuit competition, she could be in the TOP 12.
NETHERLANDS, Sabrina Anijs – Sabrina is of Indian descent who was born and raised in the Netherlands. Her advantage will be her knowledge about the environmental issues in our planet. Other than that, she’s weak in terms of catwalk skills and will be eclipsed by the other stronger European delegates.
NEW ZEALAND, Catherine Irving – Catherine is also one of the shortest delegates in this competition. What I don’t like about Catherine is that sometimes she tries so hard to impress the public with her catwalk skills which appear too stiff.
PANAMA, Geraldine Higuera – Geraldine is another Latina who is forgettable. She is also short and does not stand out in group photo shoots.
PHILIPPINES, Sandra Inez Seifert – Sandra could be the best Philippine delegate to this pageant after Miss Earth 2008, Karla Henry. With her win of the two major awards - Best in Swimsuit and Best in Evening Gown - she definitely has a big chance of giving the Philippines a back to back victory. My only fear for Sandra is that Carousel might reverse the results if she tops the competition during the finals night. Considering that it is held in the Philippines - having another victory by the Philippines could have a negative impact on next year’s pageant if it is held here again.
RUSSIA, Ksenia Podsevatkina – Ksenia is the last delegate to arrive here in Manila and she missed the Press Presentation event held last Nov. 4. This Russian lass may not be among the most beautiful European delegates. Her biggest advantage is her great catwalk skills and her 5’10” height. Ksenia’s highest placement could be a TOP 18 spot and she could advance to the TOP 12 if she gives a good swimsuit performance in the finals night.
SERBIA, Dijana Milojkovic – Dijana's most prominent feature is her pouty lips which could be compared to Angelina Jolie's. She also has a sexy body and big bosom which makes her a favorite among the straight male admirers. Dijana’s disadvantage is that she is eclipsed by her stronger European counterparts like Misses Spain, Poland and Republic. She will miss the semifinals this time and will just end up as one of the thank you girls.
SLOVAK REPUBLIC, Lea Sindlerova – Lea also has a beautiful face but she is outshined by the favorites from Europe like Misses Spain, Poland and Czech Republic. She will be more than happy to see these girls make it to the top during the finals.
SOUTH SUDAN, Aheu Deng Kudum – Aheu, being the tallest delegate in the history of international pageantry, already made headlines in the pageant world with her height of almost 6 feet and 5 inches. She also comes from South Sudan which recently joined the international pageants considering that her country was involved in civil wars. Aheu is very passionate about her advocacy of caring for our Mother Earth which is evident in my email interview with her. Aheu’s highest placement could be a spot in the TOP 18 mainly due to her popularity among the Filipinos.
SWEDEN, Giulia Simone Olsson – Giulia’s initial pictures on the Internet come off as beautiful but when I saw her personally during the press presentation, it was not what I expected of her. She looks weird in some of her photos and her catwalk skills is not that great. But Giulia is a very intelligent person which is evident in my email interview with her.
TURKS & CAICOS, Alison Capron – Alison may be one of the best candidates that Turks & Caicos have sent in this pageant as she could give the other delegates a run for their money. I was surprised that Alison made it to the TOP 15 final swimsuit competition because there were other girls who were more deserving to be in the TOP 15. Alison’s catwalk skills surely need more improvement. I think she could make the TOP 18, considering that Turks & Caicos invited reigning Miss Earth 2008 Karla Henry to crown their winner this year which happens to be Alison.
USA, Amy Diaz – Amy is one of the best candidates that USA has sent to this pageant. She is just as competitive as Venezuela’s Jessica Barboza and the Philippines’ Sandra Seifert. Her only disadvantage is her short stature (she's barely 5'6"), Amy’s performance in the TOP 15 swimsuit and evening gown competition was impressive and it could help her secure a spot in TOP 8 in the finals. And if she played her card very well, she could find herself in TOP 4.
WALES, Dominique Dyer – Dominique is one of the four UK beauties in this competition and she is also the shortest among the four. She pales in comparison to her two sisters from the UK, Misses England and Northern Ireland when it comes to beauty.
Let’s summarize the Group 2 delegates with their possible placements come finals night.
Possible Miss Earth winner – Philippines
Possible Top 8 placement – USA
Possible Top 12 placement – Canada, Russia
Possible Top 18 semifinalists – England, India, Italy, Korea, Malaysia, South Sudan, Turks and Caicos
Next on my review will be the Group 3 delegates. If Group 1 has four possible winners and Group 2 has 1 possible winner, will there be a possible winner also from Group 3? Miss Earth 2009 Group 1 Delegates Review
I will now give a review of each delegate of the Miss Earth 2009 pageant. My review is solely based on my observations as a correspondent for Critical Beauty, and my impressions on each delegate from the day they arrived up until the Final Evening Gown competition. I start with a review of the Group 1 delegates and read on how they fare in this competition and what I think they could reach this coming Finals Night on Nov. 22 at the Boracay Eco-Village Resort and Convention Center.
ALBANIA, Suada Saliu – Suada’s first week here in Manila was a disappointment. I don’t like the way she looks with her messy hair. I have interviewed Suada through e-mail and she knows how to communicate in English, not that fluently but at least she can clearly convey her message about her environmental advocacy. Her height and experience as model in her country could bring her a spot in the TOP 18 semifinalists. But she is not the assertive enough and I have the impression that she's in the Philippines only for a vacation.
AUSTRALIA, Melinda Heffernan – Melinda’s advantage is her good communication skills as she comes off as intelligent based on my e-mail interview with her. Her weakest point is her height which is not proportionate to her body and she is outshined by the favorites in her group. However, Melinda is doing something to be noticed by the press by posing a lot for the camera. She's a potential TOP 18 semifinalist.
BAHAMAS, Krystal Brown – Krystal is one of the black delegates hailing from the Caribbean. She has charmed the Filipinos with her smile and sweet personality. Krystal is overshadowed by the other black delegates in this competition and she is more than happy to participate in this pageant that will bring her good memories and lasting friendships.
CHINA, Yan Xu – Yan Xu is a model in her country. She is not among the most facially beautiful among the Asian girls, but she is definitely one of the tallest along with her "twin" sister, Miss Hong Kong’s Wang Shan Shan (I say twin sister because they almost look alike and they are inseparable in every activity they do. Yan Xu won the Miss Earth Fontana 2009 title mainly because Fontana is owned mostly by Chinese. Yan Xu will not enter the semifinals as she is overshadowed by stronger Asian delegates like Misses Thailand, Philippines and Malaysia.
COLOMBIA, Alejandra Castillo Munera – Alejandra looks older for her age if she doesn't make herself up well. One example is during the tree-planting activities at the Nuvali, Sta. Rosa, Laguna. She looked like she was the chaperone of the other Miss Earth delegates. Alejandra’s strongest point is her catwalk skills that earned her a spot in the TOP 15 finalists of the swimsuit and evening gown competition. Compared to other Latina beauties, her beauty is overshadowed by the better-looking delegates like Misses Venezuela and Cuba. The highest placement Alejandra could get is a TOP 18 semifinalist spot and she might surprise us all if she makes it to the TOP 18 and possibly to the TOP 12.
CUBA, Jamillette Gaxiola (photo) – Jamillette is definitely the face of this year’s Miss Earth pageant. The hottest favorite to win the Miss Earth title and could make history as the first from Cuba. One good thing that you should know about Jamillette, even if she knows she’s the top favorite, is that she’s very humble, sweet and very approachable especially to those who want to have their pictures taken with her. She’s also the favorite of the staff from the largest TV network in the Philippines, ABS-CBN. That’s why she is almost in every ABS-CBN’s coverage, most notably in the tree- planting activities in Nuvali. Jamillette could definitely take it all come finals night, but I hope that she won’t suffer the same fate of those previous top favorites who did not make it to the TOP 4.
CZECH REPUBLIC, Tereza Budkova – Tereza’s beautiful face and her warm smile earned her a soft spot among pageant experts and fans. Her most recent win as Miss Photogenic may have sealed her a spot in TOP 18, as most of the winners of this award become automatic sure shoo-ins for the semifinals. Tereza’s weakest point may be her communication skills; she’s not fluent in English, though she clearly knows how to convey her environmental advocacy message to the public. The highest placement Tereza could get is TOP 8 and the lowest is a TOP 18 spot.
DENMARK, Patrica Tjornelund – Patrica is the first black delegate that Denmark has sent to this pageant. And would you believe when I asked her if she knew the first Miss Earth who came from her country, she replied she did not even know about it! It’s really unbelievable that they did not even research about the Miss Earth history. It should be part of their training if they have it in their country. Anyways, Patrica is short and she resembles Matet, a Filipina actress in the Philippines. Patrica will be one of those who have enjoyed their stay in the Philippines and will just watch at the sidelines during the finals.
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, Mariel Garcia – Mariel is among the tallest delegates in this year’s pageant. She knows how to strut her stuff just to be noticed by the press, but she can't hold a candle to the likes of Misses Jamaica and Martinique. She is always in the company of her fellow Latina delegates like Cuba, Colombia and Spain. Mariel’s highest placement could be a TOP 18 spot but I doubt if she can advance further.
GABON, Marlyne Lea Ayenne – Marlyne is her country's first ever representative to this pageant. She is always seen in the company of another black delegate, Miss Guadeloupe. Marlyne does not attract much press attention compared to her fellow African delegates Misses South Africa and Tanzania. I don't think she'll place at all.
GEORGIA, Nona Diakonidze – Nona has a beautiful face matched with her luscious lips. She is one of those delegates who are always on the go during their activities like in their Nestle Wellness badminton activity at the Yonex Center in Mandaluyong City. She was selected as one of the TOP 5 Nestle Wellness Beauties, and if Miss Earth had a fast track for the Sports event, Nona could definitely win it. Her catwalk skills is above average and she could give the top favorites a good fight in this department. Nona’s highest placement could be a TOP 18 spot.
GUADELOUPE, Marie-Ange Seymour – Marie-Ange could have the same fate as Miss Gabon’s Marlyne Lea Ayenne; they are not among the best black delegates in this competition. But you see can that they are enjoying their stay here in the Philippines and Marie-Ange definitely would have a lot of stories and experiences to tell to her family and friends when she returns to Guadeloupe.
HONG KONG, Wang Shan Shan – Wang Shan Shan is the most beautiful among the Chinese delegates which include China, Chinese-Taipei and Macau. I was disappointed that the Miss Earth Fontana 2009 title was not given to this delegate as she deserved it more than Miss China. She was always seen together with Miss China’s Yan Xu and they are almost inseparable. Wang Shan Shan’s highest placement could be a TOP 18 spot as she also has good catwalk skills which was evident during the swimsuit and evening gown competition.
HUNGARY, Korinna Kocsis – Korrina’s advantage is her beautiful face even without make-up. Although I questioned her placement as one of the TOP 15 finalists in the swimsuit competition. Her body and catwalk skills are average, and there are others who are more deserving than her to make the 15 finalists of the swimsuit competition. Korrina could definitely make the TOP 18 semifinals with her beautiful face, but I don't think she'll advance to the next round.
INDONESIA, Nadine Zamira Syarief – Nadine is the best Indonesian delegate so far that has been sent to this pageant. Some Filipino pageant experts and fans compared her to former Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2007, Anna Theresa Licaros in terms of beauty. Nadine’s biggest advantage is her English communication skills - considered a rarity among Indonesian representatives in international pageants. Nadine is really passionate about her environmental advocacy in Indonesia. Nadine could make the TOP 18 with her charming personality, good communication skills and her passion for caring for Mother Earth.
ISRAEL, Noy Michaelov – Noy is a model in her country; she is good in catwalk and has also good English communication skills. She is always seen in the company of Miss Indonesia during their activities here in Manila and out of town. Noy was truly beautiful when she wore her hair in a bun and in yellow gown during the Evening Gown competition. Noy could make the semifinals if she plays her cards very well during the pre-judging selection process.
JAMAICA, Jenaae Jackson – Jenaae is one of the most beautiful black delegates together with Miss Martinique. But I was disappointed from what I’ve seen in pictures on the Internet - it’s not the same Jenaae you see in person. Maybe I was expecting more of Jenaae in terms of fierceness in her looks and poses in front of the cameras; what I see is a sweet- looking Jenaae who is reserved and a bit shy. If I had to choose a black delegate to be included in the semifinals, I would chose either Miss Jamaica or Miss Martinique based on their their looks alone.
JAPAN, Takada Tomomi – Takada’s advantage is her catwalk skills and her charming personality. She is somewhat a cross-over between Riyo Mori and Kurara Chibana in terms of looks and fierceness. When she introduced herself in the Filipino language, the crowd gave her an applause - which automatically makes her as one of the favorites among the Filipino public. She wouldn't have any problem entering the TOP 18.
LATVIA, Diana Kubasova – Diana has one of the most beautiful faces from Europe. She looks like a doll when she stands in a bevy of European beauties. Diana’s downfall might be her body and not so good catwalk skills. She could penetrate the TOP 18 with her beauty alone but she could be outranked by other European beauties like Misses Spain, Czech Republic and Poland.
MARTINIQUE, Pascale Nelide – Pascale together with Jenaae are among the best black delegates in this competition. Pascale’s curly locks are beautiful, she is always warm with anyone who asks to have their photo taken with her. Pascale's disadvantage is that she can’t communicate in English - which may ruin her chances in entering the semis. If Pascale dazzles the judges during the pre-judging selection process, she just might make it.
PAKISTAN, Ayesha Gilani – Ash - as she is called by her family and friends - is the best delegate Pakistan has ever sent to this pageant. Ash’s only disadvantage is her short stature and sometimes she looks older in some pictures. Ash is vary passionate about caring for Mother Earth as suggested by the e-mail interview with her. Her passion is her biggest advantage - and if she successfully demonstrates it during the pre-judging selection process, she could clinch a TOP 18 slot.
POLAND, Izabela Wilczek – Izabela is one of the most beautiful faces in this competition even without make-up. Izabela has a big chance to be the next Miss Earth; her closest rival to the title would be Cuba’s Jamillette Gaxiola and Spain’s Alejandra Echevarria. She can speak good English and is a strong animal rights advocate. Izabela’s beauty and elegance cannot be ignored as she also has the best evening gown presentation last Nov. 16th at the PAGCOR Theatre in Paranaque City. Her highest placement could be a possible Miss Earth winner and the lowest could be a runner-up position.
SOUTH AFRICA, Chanel Grantham – Chanel maybe not be the best candidate South Africa has sent to this pageant, but she delivers as expected in this competition. Her biggest advantage is her great personality coupled with her good English communication skills. Chanel was seen talking with the president of the Nuvali Company in one of their tree-planting activities in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Maybe she is interested in suggesting to her country’s rulers the type of eco-living in Nuvali where people and nature thrive together. Chanel’s highest placement could be a TOP 12 and the lowest could be a TOP 18 spot.
SPAIN, Alejandra Echevarria (photo) – Another Alejandra, but this time a stunner from Europe! Spain’s representative last year, Adriana Reveron was the favorite to win the Miss Earth title, but to the dismay of many pageant experts and fans she only ended up in TOP 8. Could Alejandra avenge Adriana’s non-inclusion in the TOP 4 with her being also as one of the favorites to win the Miss Earth 2009 crown? Well, that is possible considering Alejandra lives up to the expectations of pageant experts and fans with her TOP 15 performance in the swimsuit and evening gown competition. Her only obstacle to the crown would be her closest rivals, Cuba’s Jamillette Gaxiola and Poland’s Izabela Wilczek.
TONGA, Mary Greatz – Mary proves to be a great representative of her country. She won the Miss Island Cove Resort award during one of her group’s tree-planting activities in this resort. But she is just one of those girls who are enjoying their stay here in the Philippines and treasuring the experiences and friendship that they have gained so far.
UKRAINE, Karina Golovata – Karina is one of the blonde European delegates with hair just barely touching the shoulders. Her best performance was during the TOP 15 final evening gown competition; never mind her hideous gown, which she carried very well with her great catwalk skills. She is always seen with Miss Georgia and the two are inseparable in almost all the activities. Karina’s highest placement could be a spot in the TOP 18 semifinals.
VENEZUELA, Jessica Barboza – Jessica is proving to be just as competitive as the past Venezuelan delegates to Miss Earth . She was in my TOP 5 for the best performance in swimsuit and evening gown competition. If the pageant were not held in the Philippines and the judges had not been mostly Filipinos, Jessica could have clinched the Best in Evening Gown award as she gave the most flawless performance among the TOP 15 finalists in this segment. Her communication skills is also impressive as she speaks English fluently, thanks to her being a lawyer with a post- graduate degree. Jessica could take it all, and if she did, she could bring Venezuela its third major international crown this year, along with Miss Universe and Miss Intercontinental. The highest placement Jessica could get is the Miss Earth title and the lowest would be a runner-up position.
Whew! It was really hard to write this review of the Group 1 delegates as there are at least four girls who could possibly win the Miss Earth crown. My assessment of this group is summarized as such:
Possible Miss Earth winner – Cuba, Poland, Spain and Venezuela
Possible TOP 8 placement – Czech Republic and Latvia
Possible TOP 12 placement – Colombia
Possible TOP 18 semifinalists – Albania, Australia, Georgia, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, Martinique, Pakistan, South Africa and Ukraine
Next, my review of the Group 2 delegates. Let’s see how many from this group who could potentially be Miss Earth or earn a spot in TOP 18!
