We want to bring to everyone's attention that someone has been posting that they are creating new message boards that will allow people to bash each other.
We are actually happy this is happening. Maybe all the trash will be isolated to those boards (wishful thinking but we hope that's what will happen). Some people live to argue and bash people with no real concern about adding anything of value to improve our working conditions. If these new boards are created, those people are encouraged to head over and have at it.
We would like to offer two warnings to everyone. First, please keep in mind that these new boards, if created, will be filling with the kinds of messages that caused us to monitor these boards more closely. They will be predominately negative and disrespectful of fellow officers, many times unreasonably so. Our feeling is that it is in our collective best interest to minimize participating in that, and even being exposed to that. It goes to far, becomes too vicious and personal if its not kept in check (as we have seen). Family members become targets of attacks, officer deaths are celebrated, racial remarks take place, etc. What's next, outright death threats? Those of you who don't see these things as unacceptable are encouraged to make the new message boards your home.
Second and more importantly in some respects, All of us have a proven track record as moderators. I believe we have shown that we have the officers interest at heart. We allow ALL perspective, pro-union, anti-management, pro-management, anti-union, democrat, republican, virtually any position is welcome if it is handled responsibly. We have no agenda other than trying to create a well informed workplace. We believe we have all shown that in 4-5 years the same moderators have been running the boards listed below.
With the above in mind, people should be legitimately concerned about not knowing who is creating these new message boards. It could be a con for all we know. Again, we encourage you all to do what suits you. But we do want everyone to understand that we have no idea who might be creating these boards (not that anyone knows who we are, but we do have a track record we feel should give you all a lot of confidence).
Have a safe week.
