Dear brothers and sisters,

I am writing this to inform the officer’s across the state who may not know that they have an incredibly valuable resource available to them, should the need arise. I’m talking about Attorney Deborah Kohl in Fall River.

I became injured at work approximately two years ago. Management initially responded with a complete lack of concern even though the nature of my injury was very well documented. All they wanted was me to return immediately to give them another body regardless of how rushing back may have made my injury worse. While I had heard Atty. Debbie Kohl’s name in passing over the years, I was not overly familiar with her or even what she does exactly. One of my union stewards referred me to her with a strangely positive recommendation.

I am very skeptical, especially of lawyers having had a few dealings with them over the years. From the very first time I talked to Atty. Kohl she was surprisingly personable, down to earth, extremely concerned for my welfare, and unbelievably knowledgeable about even the “inside” things going on within the DOC. I’m not sure but I think correctional personnel is all she deals with (if not it’s the bulk of what she does) and has for many years. I can’t overemphasize how much she made me feel for the entire time she represented me how much she was absolutely dedicated to me and my situation.

I had heard all the horror stories prior to being injured about how they stop your checks and you’ll be without pay for months and months , harassment , etc. I’m not sure how much of this is true and how much is propaganda meant to discourage people from making a claim when they are injured. All I can tell you is that while Atty. Kohl represented me things went absolutely without a hitch, not one. Not even so much as a late paycheck (more than the usual day or two occasionally). Not only that but in response to any concerns I had along the way she gave me a clear, calm course of action as well as always hung up the phone with a “let me know what happens”. She never once made me feel like she had better things to do or that her “loyalty” was with anyone but me and my case.

I’m not going to write a book here, but I want you all to know that Atty. Kohl can be reached at either (508) 677-4900 or (800) 232-4900 if you ever need her. She is definitely on the side of the injured officer. She doesn’t have any back door loyalty’s or do deal making that I had the slightest indication of (and trust me I‘m pretty sensitive about being played). Do yourself a favor and keep her number somewhere and if you find yourself injured on the job give her a call.

I’m sure some will respond with some stupidity that she either wrote this or she paid someone or put me up to it or whatever. Just keep in mind that she’s not the biggest fan of those she’s effectively battled against over the years when you read any such responses. Again, do yourself a favor and ignore the negativity and keep her name/number in mind. Hopefully you’ll never need it but if you do she’s the best ally you could ask for.

Stay safe!
