Subject: SCL and Cole Need Your Help

Dear Fellow Sled Dog Enthusiast,

I am emailing you on Cole's behalf and asking for your help. The Second Chance League( a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation)is a group of Fairbanks mushers who are focused on finding permanent homes for unwanted sled dogs. We work with sled dogs that come in to the municipal animal shelter in Fairbanks, Alaska. We then evaluate them, foster them, and train them with our own dog teams. Many of these dogs have excellent bloodlines. We strive to match the right dog to the right owner, whether its for recreational use, skijoring, sprint, or mid/ long distance racing. Our goal is for the dogs to be successful. In the 9 months that SCL has been in operation, we have 72 approved foster homes and have pulled over 100 dogs from the North Star Borough Animal Shelter into SCL, with 66 dogs adopted to date.

We are asking you to open your hearts for a very special dog. Cole is a friendly old gentlemen, about 12 years old. He was pulled into our program when his time at the shelter was running out. A trained sled dog he is reported to be a retired Yukon Quest leader and is now blind in his right eye.
Several local vets have examined his eyes, and even the specialists from out of town agree that his brittle cataracts might be helped with surgery. But it will cost us.

Are you willing to help Cole spend his golden years with less pain? Please mark your donation for Cole's Eye Surgery. If we receive more money than we need (about $3,500.00) the remainder will be put into our special needs medical fund so that we can help other SCL dogs in need.
