Good views Ken:
I do not pursue whether or not a child has the "permission" if they can blow the knee. Its been my observation that children to not possess the power or skill to do this effectively. I figure, if they have the capacity to do it, then do so. In this case, the pen is surely mightier than the sword, hell, one can just have the kids jam pencils and pens into various soft regions of the attacker. How one can effectively teach this to children without them doing this at school is a subject I've yet to explore. Maybe the explosive tactic may be the first step in accumulating aggressiveness then worry about ethics later. Maybe just to build up certain reactions based upon threat alone may be necessary. I don't know.
Maybe another consideration is how to avoid the confrontational situation as Ken suggested. One option is that using "code words" to know who is the good guys in reference as to who can pick children up from school. Although, in the army we used code sentences, such that the question would include "x" and the responder would have to answer in a sentence of "y". For example, if the code word for tuesdays is "dollar" and the answer is "donkey," the child may ask the adult, I have only three dollars to spend at the movies. The adult would have to make some sentence such as, "the donkey movie I heard is really good." If the adult fails to know the code, the kid should know this person is conning them. Its also fun for the kids as well.
