I've only seen a little of it, but it's one of my favorite anime right now:

Story: A legend in the future talks about paradise on earth. However, only wolves can find paradise. A small group of wolves set out to find paradise.

Setting: The far future. A post-apocalyptic world covered in wastelands of snow, with small ruined cities scattered at great distances from each other.

Characters: There are several main characters. Four are wolves who can look like people (handy for when they're in cities, as wolves are supposed to be extinct):

Kiba (Fang): The 'leader of the pack'. He is a white wolf. Of the four, he believes most fervently in finding paradise.

Tsume (Claw): The oldest of the four, and rather disillusioned. He would be a loner if he had a choice. He's a grey wolf covered in scars.

Hige (Whisker): He's kind of the comic relief, but very rarely does any comic relief. He's always hungry. He and Kiba are close friends - he rescued Kiba from a research lab when Kiba was injured. Hige is a brownish gold wolf.

Toboe (Howling): Toboe is the most skittish of the four, and the most emotive/sensitive. He guarded an old lady for most of his youth, and wears a set of bangle bracelets that she gave him. He is a reddish brown wolf who follows Tsume around.

Overall, Wolf's Rain is amazing. It has the feel of Cowboy Bebop but is a lot more serious. Characters were designed by Cowboy Bebop's character designer, Toshihiro Kawamoto, and the music is done by the same person, too (Yoko Kanno). :D Definitely check it out if you get a chance.
