I was on methadone for 16 years from 1975 through 1990.
I kicked it cold turkey in a prison cell. The withdrawal is much more severe than heroin. It took about 6 months.
Methadone should be used as a last resort because it so hard to get off. When I got on methadone I was thinking like a dope addict "oh boy, free drugs". It is a trap.
I have been clean and sober for 11 years so it is possible to free oneself from Heroin and/or metadone addiction.
