It sounds like your daughter has a substance use disorder along with a brain disorder. She could have begun the drug use to medicate a mental health issue...like depression, anxiety, mood swings. But any relief from the mental health problems is short lived. Eventually, the drugs become the main issue. It really doesn't matter which came first. She needs medical attention to stop the drug use WHILE she receives counseling and/or medication for the brain disorders. Depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder need to be treated with medication. Often, it takes several weeks for the medication to be effective, so people give up because they want a fast fix. There is no fast fix for either substance use or brain disorders.
