You would think that facilities and services would be available for substance abusers seeking help in Carroll County Maryland. Sadly, and despite data that indicates a very high and growing number of substance abusers/addicts in this area; there is no long term treatment facility and no halfway house for individuals in need of these services and support. There is no methadone program available in Westminster. We've got a jail though and it will probably either be expanded or better yet a new bigger one may be built to house the growing number of criminals. The number of "prisoners" expands in direct response to the increase of crime committed by substance abusers trying to feed their addiction. So we lock them up. And yet still nothing has changed. What will it take? Quality of life and crime is at issue in Carroll County. Provide adequate treatment facilities and services that are readily available to individuals wanting assistance. Crime will decrease. People will heal. The community will be a better place. This is reality.
