I have the same story as many addicts, and many of the people that I have read about on this msg board. I started out hating cigarettes... started smoking at around 13. The idea of weed almost scared me, ended up trying that soon enough. I used to enjoy school. I was in the gifted program from 4th grade all the way up till high school. Soon enough the drugs started taking over. I tried this and that and liked it, so I became experimental. I moved in with some friends, whose father is bedridden after a nasty car accident. His son and the other kids that came over would constantly steal large numbers of his OxyContin, OxyCodone, Hydromorphone, when he got the liquid Oxy, they were actually pouring it on a mirror, blow drying it, then scraping up the powder to sniff. Sadly to say, I ended up trying it and loved it. Then one day, someone told me you can get "bags of pure OC for $10 at this place" so I went along with it, not knowing what it was. Soon enough I was a full blown heroin addict. Using a bag a day just to feel normal. Pawning my stuff, other peoples' stuff, stealing, whatever had to be done. After 2 years I found myself doing 6 or more bags a day to feel normal. I went to a detox and after feeling better, checked out and went and used again. Then I got my hands on some methadone. I was using it to quit heroin (on my own, without a doctor) and then using heroin to avoid methadone addiction. Realizing this was the same horrible cycle just getting worse, I came clean and told my mother. I stayed on the couch for about a week, watching tv and movies and such and self detoxed. After about 5 days I got the chance to go UConn Health Center (unbelievable place) I spoke to the addiction expert in the psych building and after asking me a bunch of questions, she gave me a pamphlet and said to seriously look into Suboxone. I have been clean since Thanksgiving so they want to start me right off with Suboxone instead of Subutex. I have been on a roller coaster with my addiction for 2 years, trying to quit, then falling back into it. Going to detox centers, coming out full of hopes and goals, and then falling back into using again. I cannot hold a job, I am 21 and have had more jobs than anyone I know, parents, family, friends, etc. The Dr. said this medicine could really help me get off the rollercoaster and become a functioning person again. I have read as much as I can on the subject, but I was hoping that someone might respond to this post and give me some details, experiences, suggestions, etc. I really want to quit, and be done with it, I have the option to start this coming Monday (Dec 6th) I have read good and bad things about Suboxone. This is a serious step for me in my recovery, I would like to be as informed as possible before saying yes or no. Anxiety and depression are also big issues for me, which linger long after the initial days of withdrawl. I constantly get panic attacks, for reasons unknown to me. That normally is what leads me to go out and use again. Even after being sober for weeks, a panic attack or severe depression or something of that nature comes, and I go out and use again. Please post anything you might think will aid me in making my decision to start Suboxone treatment. Good things, bad things, everything. I need to make a fully informed decision by Dec 6th. (Please respond ASAP and if you would like to email me, send an email to XDEETERX@aol.com but be sure to make the subject SUBOXONE or something obvious so it doesn't get mixed in with all of my junk mail) I will check this board often over the next couple days, hopefully I get some responses that can help me with my decision. Thank you.
