My family is dealing with a drug addict, my 33-year old brother. He is addicted to meth. He has very erratic, disturbing and sometimes frightening behavior. (Sometimes it seems as if he is schizophrenic.) If anyone is familiar with the drug and its unique way that it affects the user, I would sure like to connect with you. My Mom and I are bearing the brunt of dealing with him since he is unable to hold a job and has had various legal and financial problems. (My other brother is not financially stable and my Dad passed away 2 years ago.) I have ended up having to take in my Mom because my brother also depleted all of her finances and she is now filing bancrupcy because there is no way for her to dig out. We are meeting with a counselor tomorrow and are thinking about doing an intervention. My Mom and I have talked to his non-using friends who have similar concerns for him and all are willing to help with the intervention. I feel so sad and worried and like I need some sort of support group, but don't know where to find one. It seems as if heroin is similar in the hold that it has on the addict, but I believe the behaviors may be somewhat different. Still, talking to anyone who can relate, would be helpful. I have 3 of my own children who love their uncle "Markie" (as they call him) and it has been difficult for them also to deal with some of the ripple affects that come from his drug use. Thanks for listening and anything anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.
