Some progress for substance abuse treatment in Carroll County. See below for details:

Drug treatment facility bid approved

Design work on a drug treatment facility on the Springfield Hospital Center grounds is expected to begin almost immediately, according to county officials.

The county commissioners approved a bid Tuesday submitted by Brechbill & Helman Construction Co. of Chambersburg, Pa.

The firm will design and build the facility for $2,923,920. Additional money could be needed for utility connections, according to a bureau of purchasing briefing paper.

The drug treatment facility will provide treatment and counseling for 24 residential patients.

Design work will begin right away, said Tom Rio, chief of building construction. Rio estimated the project will take 18 months to complete.
