Hi I was wondering if you could perhaps help me. I have 2 paintings which I inherited from my grandmother. Both are of Cape Town scenes and signed C Shrubsole. I was wondering if Charles Shrubsole or any of his descendants was an artist who visited South Africa? On the back of one painting is written "Road to Camps Bay C Town" and on the other "Pniel Settlement near Stellenbosch CP. Unfortunately there are no dates on the paintings, but my grandmother would have been born in the early 1900"s.
I would love to know more about these paintings as they have great sentimental value to me.
Many thanks
Caroline Petersen

>>Dear Rosie
>>I also have two small oil paintings, also inherited from my grandmother,(Pearl Ames) and painted by C. Shrubsole. The Ames family came from Stamford in Kent. I am just new at this and would be happy to find any connections. As you can see I live in Australia, and would be happy to hear from anyone with news about the Ames family namely Basil (grandfather).I think he married a Jane Wilson, later he married my grandmother (Pearl Ames)
