I have contacted the Texas Rangers and they said it isn't one of theirs. Does anyone know of a texas ranger manufacturer of shotguns? The ELG in an oval indicates it was made in Belgium prior to 1893 (unless there is a crown over the oval, then it was made sometime later), and approved for black powder ammunition. Many of these conversions were only marginally safe when made and should never be used with modern shells.

"Cowboy Ranger" and "Alamo Ranger" are cheap imported Colt-wannabee revolvers. But I can't find any shotguns marked "Texas Ranger". Korey, if your gun is marked "Long Tom", then it is a Stevens-made, Sears-sold gun. But a lot of people call any shotgun over 32" a Long Tom. And if the gun is from early 1800, it would be a flintlock and pre-date the formation of the Texas Rangers.

Very few would have been after the start of WWI. Their value is primarily as a mantle decoration. A 410 usually sells higher than a 12 or 16 guage in similar condition. Could be as little as $60 if it is broken/abused/rusted or as much as $400 if in pristine condition, but $150-200 should buy most.

I fired it yesterday for the first time and it operated flawlessly. There a some numbers where the barrel lies that are stamped and read 397.

Their guns are about like all the Crescent, Davenport, and inexpensive imported Belgian shotguns from that era. They were utilitarian and "worked as designed", but there are many guns and few collectors. Even fewer sportsmen will be using a 100-year old firearm which was not designed for modern ammunition. Unless it is in like-new (original, not refinished) condition, it is worth less than $200 and if broken or badly worn/bruised then less than $100.

If name marked is only Columbia, are there patent dates in 1891 and/or 1902 also stamped on the receiver? If so, you have a product of Davenport Arms made sometime after that date and before 1915. The guns were manufactured by a variety of makers; Davenport, Crescent, Stevens/Savage, and probably others. Your best chance of finding a replacement is to take the remnants of your stock to a gunshow and look for something similar on the parts tables.

Some of them identify the maker, some the year of manufacture, and some indicate a range of dates when it was proofed. I don't have any ready references for these marks, but you can probably find some information by doing an internet search for "Spanish proof marks" or "Spanish gun codes", or "Spanish manufacturer codes".

Wouldn't be something you would want to shoot, probably was designed for black powder loads and has laminated barrels and short chambers. Value will be determined by how well it looks over the fireplace, usually in the $125-$150 range.

As for value, everything has some value to someone, but you haven't told us enough to determine for sure what you have or what condition it is in (other than the broken or missing firing pin). My crystal ball says you have a well-used single-shot break-action shotgun. If that's right, it will probably be worth about $50-75 retail after it is repaired.

The barrell is hex shape at the receiver and goes to round. There is a mark of a triangle with a capital (B) with a star above it. This mark is on most of the parts. Crescent made firearms from 1892 to about 1930, but side hammers indicate it was probably made prior to 1914.
