If it was cut by a butcher, anyone can tell by looking. If cut by a skilled craftsman, perhaps no one can. How even is the cut, are the edges squared-off or rounded, is there any trace of bluing on the cut end, is the sight bead missing or, if present, how neatly is it soldered, is it EXACTLY 20"? Shotguns have been (still are) made with 20" tubes, but many have also been shortened for various reasons - damaged muzzles, personal preference of the owner, or to create a "Wells Fargo Stage Coach Gun".
