Subject: Proud to be a "Dogman"

After 45 years you'd think these memories from being in Vietnam would subside but they only seem to amplify. We all remember going to the kennels every night in the pounding monsoon rain, getting our weapons, flares, C-Rations and worthless radios; Guard Mount and loading into the trucks every night getting posted. Here I am on Kilo 10 Alpha outside the wire patrolling for local Viet Cong. I remember a sense of terror sifting through the elephant grass with Selig pulling me all night! But, I also felt safe, confident and ready full well knowing that the Sappers probing the perimeter were very aware and afraid of the dogs attacking them. Dogmen had to have an "attitude" and we did. We knew the base would always be safe with dog teams on the perimeter. I loved being a dogman!
