 I am coming in on this very late and am rather new to genealogy but do have a love for early American history and my family so what seems strange to me is that in all the bickering in the link listed above did no one make mention that John Watts (Young Tassle) had a brother named Malachi. I have no idea if Malachi was a common name of the era or not but it is proven through history that John Young Tassle Watts who succeeded Dragging Canoe was Cherokee. Just another possible piece of the puzzle, I guess.
