 Hi, I have been searching for Cherokee roots in my family for many years. It seems that I have the last name 'Choate' in my family tree as well from Cherokees in NC before the Trail of Tears. Any idea of what this name means? I did come across other people with Choate as a surname in the Indian Territory, OK censuses in 1880's.
