I am a researcher with and co-founder of The Lost Colony Group in NC. We are the only group in the world using dna to try to locate and identify people living today that we believe are descendants of Sir Walter Raleigh's 1587 colony who disappeared and became known as The Lost Colony of Roanoke Island. We believe the colonists had to assimilate into several groups of Natives in order to survive. We are specifically interested in the Hatteras or Croatan Indians, Powhatans, and other groups who were in the NC / Va. areas during the late 1500's and early 1600's. We are very interested in talking with anyone who has family legends of being Native and their early ancestors possibly being the colonists. We are also very interested in family names such as Berry, Nichols, Cheven, Dare, Borden, along with many other names of the colonists.
