The story has been handed down from generations past of a Mother and three of her children that were herded onto the Trail of Tears(Indian Removal). The infant was not strong and the mother knew that if she or her children were to survive that she had to leave the trail. She slipped away and hid with her children in the mountains. The Mother became ill and died as did the infant. The two older children survived and were my ancestors. I have located the application that was made and there was a reply sent for the applicant to send one dollar for the records fee. The Cherokee Nation denies that they sent the post card and deny that any such application was made. My great grandmother would sing and mourn the loss of her people. She lived in KY. The name I am researching is Evans. John Evans (born 1796), Mary Evans Pack and their brother James. They were the children of Julia? and Charles Evans.
