Hi,
I am trying to research to find out if the family story of Cherokee heritage is true or any Native Indian lineage? My gggrandmother lived to a very old age and we have a hand drawn picture of her where she really does look Native American Indain - this does not prove anything. I am only interested in finding my family genealogy, no matter where it takes me. My gggranmother was Sarah Hoar and married William Hawk, they had a daughter Laura Hawk that married Ed Bowers, they had a daughter Beulah that married Warren Rodeheaver, they had a daughter Shelva that married James (Sam) Laughery, and they had a daughter (me) Tonya Laughery and I married Clyde R. Luckey. Now my gggrandmother Sarah's father: James Hoar came to Pennsylvania in the late 1700's, he was dark complected and rumors had that he was related to the Hoar family in Massacusetts. Also rumor had that when very young for a short period of time he was a pirate and did not like it and came here to hide. His family was wealthy but he came to PA instead of going back to Massachussetts or Conneticut or wherever he was born. I am looking to research these names: Hoar, Hawk, and Bowers. If you can be of any assistance to me I would be greatly appreciative.
Thank you,
Tonya
