Kathie,
I'm still working at it. Have come across some names such as Snow, Wren, etc. in one part of my background.
The one I'm having the most trouble with is my RUCKER background. No one seems to have heard of the Rucker's I'm descended from.
Is there ANY way you can help me with this just a little? I'm so frustrated at this point.
My paternal grandmother, Inez Azora RUCKER, was born July 31, 1902 in New Orleans, Louisiana and she died November 17, 1986. Her father, Edward Augustus RUCKER, was born March 25, 1867 at Simmesport, Louisiana. Her mother was Rachel S. HARMANSON, and I have no idea as to when she was born or when she died.
I can find NOTHING on my grandmother or her father.
I was told as a young teenager, by my father, Gerald Anthony PILCHER, now deceased as of May 1997, that my sibling's and I are right about (1/4) Cherokee Indian; but, he never explained how.
My grandmother's father paid fifty cents to have her birth registered. Did people do that back then? Or, is that something that happened when an adoption occurred or what? I'm starting to suspect she was adopted. My dad had the prominent Indian features and always told me I had the high cheek bones of the Indian. My brother's and my sister look part Indian as well. My mother denies any Indian in our family. Her maiden name is MINER. She was born in Franklin, Indiana in 1929. She doesn't have any knowledge of the background of the RUCKER'S. Actually, she doesn't have any information on her side, past her parent's or grandparent's.
Can you PLEASE help me with these RUCKER'S or guide me as to where I need to turn? I'm LOST!
I want to find where the Indian stems from. One thing my dad never did do was lie to me. He was always truthful. I didn't think at the time to ask him in what way we were related to the Indian. My Great Uncle Donald also told his children as they were growing up that the MINER'S were related to the Indian's, but there again, never explained how.
Can you please give me some insight?
I would most appreciate it.
My email is: Punkette58@yahoo.com.
My GGrandfather Edward Augustus RUCKER's parent's were John A. RUCKER born about 1844 - 1852 and died young...year not known. His mother was Rachel S. HARMANSON and I have NO idea when she was born or died. But, apparently John A. RUCKER and Rachel S. HARMANSON had two boy's, from the information I've got. One of them was John J. RUCKER. I have no account of when he was born or died, but he was killed. Then, Edward Augustus RUCKER was born March 25, 1867 and died January 21 or 30, 1940. He was married to Mary Emma Brenan and I have no account of her birth or death.
Can you please help me?
Thanks...
Sincerely,
Janice Combs
