Subject: I need help... Mode of travel Bombay 8/26/44 to Dinjan

I would like some help on modes of travel for troops and travel routes from Bombay to Dinjan. I'm trying to fill in some gaps for my father. He's 83 and has just recently talked about his days in the CBI with interest... which has me real interested. His memory isn't too good, but he does recollect alot. S/Sgt Bob Bursian, Air Mechanic Crew Chief with the 330th Airdrome Sqd, 10th CCS, 3rd CCG. They arrived in Bombay on 8/26/44 (aboard the USS General H.W. Butner) departing San Pedro, CA on 7/25/44. His orders were to Dinjan and meet up with the 10th CCS. Dad remembers travelling by narrow gauge rail for a long time (seeing lots of baboons), and then travelling on a paddlewheel for a while on the Bhamaputra River (contending with an abundance of rats). He remembers Dinjan and being there for a long time (9 months before going to Myitkyina). Any help with typical travel routes would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
Mark Bursian
