My father, SSGT Ted Day, was with the 1st Squadron of the 1st Combat Cargo Group, he enlisted n May 1941 at Riley Field, Denver, went to Detroit for R2800 engine training. Then began his long trip to the CBI. Left Miami, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Ascention Is, Africa Gold Coast, Etheopia, Karachi, Calcutta to Dum Dum Air Feld. Stationed at Su Young, China. Missions: supplied Merrils Marauders, one of first C-47s into Mytchinon, Flew Chinese troops, Dropped O.S.S. agents, carried gas for 'gas stations' even carried Mules. Few to Siagon, Hong Knog, and carried officials to official Jap surrender in the rain.
If anyone's father might have passed along any of these experiences, pilots or radio men, I would like to hear from you. He also said his Squadron confiscated a large amount of beer from the officers. He claimed that when off duty he helped out some of his buddies wth fights, Dad had a knock out punch.
