Bruce, I am late to the party here, only having obtained my Dad's military records this past week. He had seven kids, and while he died in 1997, it took all this time at family reunions to piece together snippets of stories he had told each of us, for me to decided to send away for his records.
He never said enough to suggest that he was in Misamari or what was done there. We only knew he spent time in India.
It turns out, he was a Navigator with the 1328th, with 12 flights over the Hump (doing what from that base, exactly, I don't know -fuel, provisions, personnel, equipment?) and also served as senior briefing officer. Maybe they did a mix of things from there. My part of the story we pieced together was "Dad, what did you do in the war?" with the reply, "oh, I flew in a big plane, a B-24, as a navigator." He encouraged me to develop compass skills as a Scout (smile). He loved to go to the beach to see all the stars. It is said, the greatest generation came home, took care of business, and often did not stop to reflect on the magnitude of what they accomplished until much, much later.
