Hi Pandora
Yours is not an unusual request. Without meaning to discourage you I will say that you are unlikely to find the Coven you are looking for. The demand for reputable teachers and groups in the Pagan community far, far outstrips the numbers actually able, available and willing to teach.

The usual process for gaining entrance into a reputable Coven (which no-one really discusses) is by invitation. It is rare for a person to be accepted upon request and without prior introduction. As an example, the group I am a part of started up a new teaching circle a while ago. The aim was to eventually forming a working coven from the students that remained committed over a long period of time plus students from the previous teaching circles. The students for the teaching circle were invited to join after we met them at various events and came to be friends with them. I was invited to be a part of the original teaching circle 9 years ago in similar circumstances. It takes a lot of time to build the relationships that lead to coven work and initiation.

The advice I will give to you is to get out into the community and distinguish yourself. Whilst there are not many good teachers out there they are not impossible to find. Most however will not come to you. You will need to find them. The best way to do this is go to events in your area. Meet people. Have discussions. Volunteeer to help with events in the community. By being "out there" in the world and proving you are not afraid of a little social interaction and hard work you will stand out of the crowd and show any potential coven that you are worth taking on. Plus you will meet lots of new friends and get a better idea of the community, your path and where you may want to head on it next.

Places to start would definitely be things like the PAN Full Moons. Perhaps join PAN and volunteer on some of the Subcommittees. Go along to a gathering like The Australian Wiccan Conference coming up in September. Pick a reoccurring event like a Pagans in the pub night or Witches Meetup and make an effort to consistently attend. You might want to join yahoo groups too as lots of events are advertised there.

Most of the concentration of Pagan events in Sydney is in the Inner city or the Western Suburbs so you are in luck in that regard.

I hope this helps you and I wish you all the best on your path pandora. May the Gods guide you.

Good Luck

Jo Dunster
