I thought Tech alum readers might be interested in this communication from Bob Young to his "much older friend" and a proud 1939 graduate, Ben Briscoe.

“much older” Ben Briscoe passed away 24 December 2007 in Avenal, California, his home after Indianapolis.

"Ben Briscoe and I have been lifelong friends dating back to kindergarten at PS 54. With our birthdays 2 months apart we had a long running joke that he was my "much older friend" or that I was his "much younger friend". It never failed to bring a smile after all the years. It was a shared joke, just between the two of us.

Although many miles separated us for the better part of our lives, we kept in touch, but I failed miserably in convincing him to become a Republican.

Ben and I last saw each other in June 1999 at our 60th reunion at the Indiana Ballroom. He and his brother joined our table for the entire evening. We had quite a reunion with much toasting.

We talked twice after my neck affair, as recently as about 10 days before his passing. Ben had refused any more chemo or heart medications, and I somehow feel that he made his own decision about his outcome.

Ben was an incredible fellow. There aren't many like him. It was a real joy to be his friend.

Very sorry about Bob Young. I know him only through the message board, but enjoyed his imputs.

Glenn, thanks for putting in Bob's note to Ben. It says a lot about both of them.
