My old school was No. 10 on Carrollton. Having lived in AZ for some years now, I was told that it came down to make way for I-70...is this true, do you know? I also went to No. 55.

Tidings Evelyn,

School No. 10 formerly at 13th and Ashland (Carrollton) was not in the "direct" path of Interstate 65, but was kind of near the fringes of it. Next time I'm in that area I will do a drive by on your behalf and take a closer look at where it was that you got your three r's. Then I will make a post of the message board.

Thanks so much...that would be wonderful. Guess I got my Interstates mixed up. Have never located anyone else from this site that attended No. 10. Considering I will be 83 this mo., would guess there are not many of us around.

Today I drove by what was the former location of IPS School #10.
You are absolutely correct. IPS School #10 which was formerly located was on the corner of 13th and Carrolton (formerly Ashland), DID sit right in the direct path of Interstate 65, (city northbound corridor to Chicago Ilinois).

Hope this confirms that tidbit of local school history.

Randy,

It's important for people who see your list of school closings and don't still live in Indy to know that several of the schools on the closed list have actually reopened: Shortridge, Howe and George Washington. All three are in use now and are being renovated.
