Subject: Esther Given Bowman, class of 26

Esther Givan Bowman 99, of Los Angeles, California, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away April 2, 2008. She was born June 4, 1908 in Indianapolis to Holton and Algela Berry Givan. Esther graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1926. She worked for AT&T for 35 years as an operator, retiring in 1973. Esther was a member of Willshire Christian Church; Order of Eastern Star; Ebell of Los Angeles, a very distinguished club for women; and volunteered for Christ to the World by Radio, the Salvation Army, American Red Cross; and for the Far East Broadcasting Co. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 12 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St. with funeral services at 1:00 p.m. Surviving is her brother, Willard S. Givan; several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and great nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Cecil Clayton and Herbert Bowman; and a sister, Geraldine Yensel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Willshire Christian Church in Los Angeles, California.
