Thanks Glenn, I made my calls to the Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana State Library and told them about IPS Closing the "Teacher's Reference Library" and putting the books/collection in boxes to be stored.

Surely The IPS Library can be consolidated with some other library. I was advised by the former mentioned institutions that they would be very interested in the IPS collection.

Some of the collection at the IPS library may not be that worthy of catalogueing, but those books on the history of each grade school building and their high school yearbooks, are a researchers "ice cream and cake", (double helping).

Randall,
Once again you have done a good job.Sure would be a shame to loose all that history. Also someone asked about school#10. In 1954 I had kids in my 8th grade class that had gone there. Thanks again for all your Trivia and information.

Marilyn

For those interested...I have been advised by Mr. Steve Haller, Senior Director of Archives and Library for the Indiana Historical Society that he is looking into this matter (historical information from IPS closed library), and that he is looking into it with deep and serious interest. I will informed you as to if his attempts are successful or vain. I will say a prayer for Mr. Haller, because he is probably going to need it.

Randall,
Thank you for following up and keeping the "heat on".
I'm certain that many of us will say a prayer.

I received this correspondence on Feb. 25th, (see below). Hence, I feel a little better now. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the IPS Library collection.

Randy,

I hope you will be relieved to know that this matter was indeed checked on by the State Archives. I now understand that this IPS office is in some transition, temporarily moving the material you are concerned about, has no disposal plans for it, plans to retain it, and hopes to eventually digitize much of this history.

I appreciate your concern for preserving what sounds to be a very interesting and worthwhile collection and bringing its possible status to our attention.

Steve
