Terry,

If you think the Pipe company was local, I would start out at the Indiana State Library and do some researching there. The staff will assist you with your research. They have city directories back into the 1880's for Indianapolis and many other cities in Indiana. Thousands and thousands of companies are listed in these. Also they have an index for articles that were in the Indianapolis newspapers. Let's say for the sake of this discussion there was an article about The Pipe Company that was in the newspaper...A 3 by 5 index card could be in their file and it will tell you what newspaper microfilm you can pull, put on a reader and copy the article.
If you go to the Library...it is located at Senate and Ohio. Enter on the Ohio Street entrance. Proceed up the elevators to the 2nd floor. After arriving on the second floor turn to the right go around the corner past a counter and proceed past the computers and you will come to a 2nd counter. At this counter ask for Ms. Julia Stubbs and tell her I sent you and what you are researching. Ms. Stubbs will do her best to serve you.
Also if the pipe company was incorporated, you can go to the Indiana State Archives on East 30th Street and obtain copies of Incorporation documents. These are on file there. Lots of good stuff in these.
Now I am saying all of this under the pretense that the Pipe company was in Indianapolis?
If you have any questions you can PM me at froggy@svs.net

Lawence and Lucille Condra along their three daughters Phillis,Sondra and Sharolyn, use to be my neighbors. We lived on Nowland Ave. near Brookside Park.Mr.Condra use to make pipes in his garage and I would sit and watch him for hours. He and Lucille have both passed away, but will never be forgotten. They were very special people. Somewhere in a box out in the barn I still have a pipe he made me for my 18th birthday which was 48 years ago. Mike
