Randall,

I don't know but I didn't have the money to get one in 1959. I bought mine last year from the Alumni Association it was $15.00 and I sent them $25.00. I got a 1958 about 5 years ago at a reunion dinner. They auctioned it off and I paid $85.00 for it.

I don't remember the cost back then but my grandson just got a notice about his and it's $50.

Elaine,

They DO NOT have year books at Tech anymore. SAD! They couldn't get anyone to work on it. They had talked about having a CD made, but I don't know if they did that or not.

The cost of a 1959 Arsenal Cannon Yearbook was $3.50. With inflation and all it would be equivalent to $23.57 today. Or basically a couple of music CD's.

The total yearbook project for 1959 was $10,000.00 which inflation wise today would be $67,344.66.

To produce a quality yearbook we are talking a lot of hard work on the students part and proper faculty leadership. In the back of the '59 yearbook there was a total of 47 very nice professional advertisements for business. I'm sure this helped tremendously in the overall cost of production. There again the students had to get out, beat the bushes, and sell, sell, sell.

Now I know why they cost so much today. He attends Lawrence North and I want to be sure he gets one. I am like so many others I didn't get mine until a few years ago.

Keep up the good work with the trivia, it's fun to go back and remember.

Very interesting, Randy, and impressive. Can you tell me what I have forgotten about the initial and inflated cost for my 1951 yearbook?

Hello Glenn,

Thanks. Lets see, 1951 now would that have been written in "hieroglyphic" ;-). No just kidding. Give me a little time and I will do my best to serve you. May require a trip to the library. My favorite home away from home.

To answer a question posed by Glenn F. Holle '51 pertaining to the cost of a 1951 yearbook;

During a visit to the Indiana State Library I tried without success to obtain that information. In their reference collection they did not have any Fall 1950 Arsenal Cannon Newspapers. My thinking was I could scan through these and perhaps find out what a yearbook cost from some form of advertising in the weekly school newspaper.

FWIW, I did take notice of this. In 1949 & spring 1950 the weekly ARSENAL CANNON NEWSPAPER was advertised in this manner. The price was $3.00 per year for a subscription, 5 cents per single copy, or $3.25 per year to have it mailed to your home. I noticed that the newspaper was normally printed in black ink. However during holidays they entered a festive mode of printing their Thanksgiving Issues in Brown Ink. Around Christmas, they would be printed in Green or Red ink. I dare say the kids who worked in this endeavor enjoyed themselves.
