Subject: Tech Demegorian Club (question)

I would like to pose this question to the message board readers. Just exactly, WHAT WAS THE DEMEGORIAN CLUB? Did anyone on the message board participate in this club or know anything about it as such?

The Demogorians was organized in 1924 to provide speakers for church and civic groups. Mr Charles Parks was the sponsor.

Thanks Bob, I kind of gathered it was something like that as I have seen reference to this as a club.

From the October 25th 1934 Arsenal Cannon Newspaper:
Demegorians Speak at Church

Seven Demegorians spoke at the Broadway Baptist church Sunday, October fourteenth, on the subject of "Voices". they were George Curtiss, chairman, Doriann Johnson, Roland Boughton, Dorothy Hammer, Norman Judd, Alice Cleveland, and William Stonex.

From September 27, 1934 Arsenal Cannon Newspaper
Demegorians Celebrate Tenth Anniversary

The Demegorians celebrated their tenth birthday as a Tech organization at the fourth annual dinner of the Demegorian Alumni Association, September 8th, at the Brookside United Brethren Church.
Edwin Tomlinson acted as toastmaster. Mr. DeWitt S. Morgan, principal, Mill Mabel Goddard, the head of the English department, and Miss Stambol from School no. 8 gave short talks.
Pete Wehmeier, who recently returned from a sixty-thousand mile hobo journey around the world, told of his experiences. Wallace sims spoke on "Amusing Experiences of Demegorians." George Curtiss gave a number of yodles, and Roland Boughton performed numerous tricks in majik. Rovina Smith and Margie Brooks, two prospective Demegorians from Junior High School No. 8, gave selections from speeches that had been given on former Demegorian programs.
The program closed with a candle lighting service in which a representative of each class from 1925 through 1934 lit the candles which fromed letters spelling the word "Demegorian".
One hundred and two were present. (end)

*********************************

In addition to giving speeches, yodelling, and doing magic tricks....it seems a person who was willing to get up in front a group and do about anything was accepted? I just wonder what the origin of the work "Demegorian" is. I have tried to find something about Demegorian on the net and in dictionaries and my attempts are vain.
