Subject: Seeking 2 lost alum photos from 1936-1941

I am writing on my own behalf and that of my mother, Evelyn M. Sprow, who I believe attended your school. I am seeking not only photos of her, but also of Robert Neal Ireland (“Bob”). Miss Sprow graduated from there in (or about) 1941 and was already a professional violinist and travelling the country. I have no childhood pictures of her at all (they were lost in a fire).

Her then-fiancé, Robert N. Neal, was a bona fide genius and, I understand, a well-liked fellow, who graduate a year or so earlier and was accepted into Purdue at age 15 or 16 in 1939. He left Purdue shortly before graduation to join the war effort as a fighter pilot and was shot down after having earned several medals for valor. He would have attended your high school between 1936-1939. However, mention might have been made posthumously in the 1940s, citing his demise in action.

It would mean a lot to my mother if a photo of him could be located. Also, there is about to be a film made of my mother’s very colorful life after college, and I would like to find the Ireland family, if indeed such still exists. There are hints that they might have relocated to Los Angeles in the late 1940s. Arsenal Technical High itself might also be of interest, at least in passing, to the producers of the film, still being scripted.

Can anyone help me? I understand you are the alumni representative for the 1930s and 1940s. Perhaps there is a living alumnus from that period who would remember and have a photo or yearbook from that period—if, indeed, I have the right school.

Sincerely,

Beverly K. Eakman

My Mother was in the class of '39. Her name was Carolyn B Jones and her neice was Virginia Gordon from the same class. Her newphew was Bruce Roberts and he was either a year before or behind them I believe.
You might try contact Wanda Harris from the Tech Alumni Assoc and see if she can help you. She has a lot of yearbooks from different years.

For those that may be interested. My research resulted in finding out that Evelyn Marie Sprow was NOT a grad of Tech. She graduated from Decatur Central H.S. in 1940. (it was a major effort to find this out...huff puff)

Her daughter is going to be able to obtain the photos of her Mother which she desires. A former boyfriend of Evelyn Sprow did attend Tech. That being Robert N. Ireland, a fighter pilot who died in WWII.

Thanks to Wanda Harris for her help in matter.
