Subject: TECH TRIVIA QUESTION

It is pretty much common knowledge that Tech first started as a public High School (unofficially) in 1912. After becoming a High School what was the first building which was newly constructed and added to the campus?

I'm going to take a stab at it and name two possibilities.
The first was the building next to and along side Stuart Hall on the west side and it seems to me it was called the Annex where I had several sheetmetal shop classes. The second I'm guessing is the old lunchroom. My logic on that is it was still serving mashed potatoes and gravy (remember old rocks and glue) when I was a student that were vintage lunch selections back when it was still a military post. Just Kidding (;^ ) !!

Hello Pete, Congrats, your first answer is CORRECT and right on the money. ANNEX IS THE ANSWER!

From the January 1939 Arsenal Cannon Yearbook:
Page 16, The Annex, the first new building erected on the campus after Tech was founded, was completed in 1916. Although it was formerly intended for a shop annex, at first the rooms were appropriated for recitation purposes because of the numger of students in the academic field. Mechanical drawing, algebra, geometery, electricity and layout are some of the subjects now taught in this building.

Randy,
Wasn't the Michigan Street Guard House among the original buildings?

Randy,

Glenn, Yes it was. I might have referred to that building as the Arsenal Street Guard House, but I meant Michigan and Arsenal Street. The front door really doesn't face any street proper? Sorry didn't mean to produce any confustion.
