Subject: Tech Alumni Day 2009

Today I attended the annual Tech Alumni Day. It was a lovely day and the campus was just a beautiful as ever. Without a doubt this is an event that mainly appeals to retirees. At 57 I was one of the younger whippersnappers in attendance. Some of the more gregarious folk attending like to wear outfits that really focus on our school colors of green and white. I admire them for their enthusiasm and zeal.

It seems every time I visit the campus for something like this a major project is going on with one of the buildings. This visit was no exception. Operative Masons are restoring the masonry facade of the Stuart Hall Tower. Not just a basic tuck pointing of the morter. In some cases stone and brick is being removed and I assume replaced with like quality materials. When it is done it will really be nice. These sort of project cost a lot of money, but that school is worth every bit of attention that it gets.

During the official program the alumni choir gave a concert that was par-excellent. I'm talking 37 or 38 SONGBIRDS. The alumni choir was directed by Tech Staff person Cindy Lewis Hartshorn (Class of 1970), and a wonderful pianist. Tech school songs, traditional standards, and patriot songs were enjoyed by all. The Anderson Auditorium is a great facility for these activities.

Thank you to all the Alumni Officers, and their staff of volunteers who worked so hard to make this a very nice day for those who attended.

In closing...there was one gent there who graduated in 1935! A Tech Grad for 72 years WOW!
