Two things. First he replaced the wooden hands with metal hands. Second, in honor of his famous cavalryman relative, Jeb Stuart, he installed musical chimes that played Dixie, which was later covered by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Only a few minor changes, necessitated by the wear of weather, have been made in the clock. Mr. Milo H. Stuart, first principal of Tech, had the clock refaced, with new metal hands to replace the original wooden ones.

“We made an effort to duplicate the old dials as much as possible,” he said, “Instead of the more modern roman numerals, we used the original IIII rather than the more common form of IV for the figure four.”
